Puppy Watercolour Birthday!

Jo's Stamping Spot - Puppy Watercolour Birthday

I'm popping in quickly today to share a card I made for my gorgeous niece and her 14th birthday recently.

Those that know and follow me know we are lovers of Golden Retrievers. My mum used to breed them and owned 11 at one point, I'm on my third since I moved out of home some 20 years ago, and my sister is up to number 4. Here is a photo of some of our puppies taken in 2010.

So as a big puppy person I find it too hard to let go of the retired set Bella & Friends which I used for her card. I had to dig out an old retired colour, Hello Honey, to get a colour similar to a Retriever but all the others are current.

I stamped the two puppies onto the Fluid 100 watercolour paper and stamped some grass and the little cupcake also. When I watercolour I work from lightest to darkest so I started with a pretty watery light shade of Hello Honey on each puppy and by working alternately on each it allowed each layer to dry somewhat. To get darker I just used less and less water with my ink (I don't actually fill my aqua painters with water but instead have a small cup of water to use while I work). The sky is Seaside Spray and the grass was a light shade of Soft Sea Foam with a light shade of Granny Apple Green over the top. I used various Stampin' Write markers to colour in the collars, little hearts and bone. I did go over the puppies and the cupcake frosting with Wink of Stella but you can't really see it unless it's in the sunshine. Anyway, I hope she loved it!
